Different Fishing Techniques for targeting different Species of Fish when fishing in Monaco

Understanding the fishing techniques is very critical to your success during a fishing expedition. You don’t have to worry though. We have the best team that will teach you all that you need to know. The fishing techniques that you can explore for an exciting big game fishing expedition in Monaco are highlighted below:

Big Game Fishing and Trolling from Monaco

Image

Whether you are looking at inshore or offshore fishing, trolling with lures or baits is a common technique. Using this method, the fishing lures or baits will be positioned about 10-50 meters distance behind the boat. The exact distance will be determined by the type of bait, trolling speed, and the weather at sea. For inshore trolling, the speed is around three to six knots while it is six to eight knots for offshore trolling. When a fish comes to the boat’s vicinity and sees the lures, it assumes that lures are a group of fish and attempt to attack. The fish is dragged to the water surface with a harness or rod.

Offshore trolling fish species include Mahi-mahi, swordfish, spearfish, and tunas while the species for inshore trolling are tunas, spearfish, bonito, swordfish, and Mahi-mahi.

Spinning and Casting for Bluefin Tuna from Monaco

Image

This technique is perfect for luring tunas and some other pelagic. Using this technique involves throwing the lure into the water to attract the fish. Sometimes, the tuna may not want to attack specific bait. Therefore, we use different fishing lures until it gets attracted. Once the tuna is hooked, we use a big landing net to remove it from the water, then tag and release it. The target fish species are tunas, bonito, and mackerels.

Jigging and Vertical Fishing from Monaco

This is a relatively new fishing method in the Mediterranean Sea. However, it is highly effective for big game fishing. To use this method, we guide you to drop metal jigs into the water and this acts as an artificial lure to attract the fish to bite. We use a combination of fast and slow speed to achieve the target. Jigging is mostly used for offshore fishing and the target is tunas.

Live Bait Fishing from Monaco

This is mainly for inshore fishing and it requires the use of live mackerels, cuttlefish, or squids as baits to attract the big game fishes. This technique requires patience and attention but you have nothing to worry about. Our team of experts will guide you through the step-by-step process. The target fish species for live bait fishing are tunas, amberjacks, and dentex.

These are the popular fishing techniques in Monaco. Others include drifting or chumming and bottom fishing. Our team of professional fishermen understands these techniques in detail and if you require any of them to achieve your fishing goals, they will be there to guide you.

The Concept of Tag and Release - By YFS

Image

To increase the survival rates of Bluefin tuna, it is prohibited to keep a Bluefin tuna on board in Monegasque waters. Although it allows in specific circumstances in Italian and French waters, there is usually no reason or way to keep a Bluefin tuna onboard during a fishing expedition. Therefore, when a Bluefin tuna is capture, the angler tags and releases the fish back into the sea. The tag and release approach allows the angler to attach a tag to the fish and record data, such as type of fish, place, date, and time, on a standardized postcard. This card is submitted to a conservation organization or scientific agency. When an angler catches a tagged fish, they report it to the established points of contact. The tag and release approach to big game fishing increases the possibility of catching bigger trophy-sized fish in the future. When you let a juvenile go, they get bigger and reproduce, thereby populating the species.
